Hello,
As we approach the end of the 1st nine week period everyone appears to be settling in and getting comfortable with the environment and expectatons. As previousy announced, I am teaching all subjects this year. Including math, science, social studies, and language arts. In math, we are currently working on graphs…line, bar, and pie. Any assistance you can provide your student at home would be greatly appreciated.
In language arts we are reviewing forms of fiction. Including fable, folk tale, legend, and myths. Any assistance you can provide at home is welcomed and encouraged. Any assistance needed from me is also welcomed. call me @ 873-8130.

Any assistance at home is greatly appreciated, even when homework is not assigned, it is encouraged. 6th graders are currently evaluating energy, including it’s various forms and sources.

Several changes are underway this year aimed at better serving you and yours. My name is Mr. Davis and I am the resource teacher here at MMS. That essentially means that I teach all core subjects – language arts, math, science, and social studies. I wanted to take this opportunity to welcome you to a brand new school year and assure you that here at MMS your child’s achievement is our only interest. To this end, I look forward to working with your this year. If you need to contact me do so via e-mail @ s3davis@scsk12.org
As the first semester comes to a close, we remain focused on ensuring that our students continue to excel. This month in my class the focus shifts to angles and geometric shapes in math, while writing prompts take center stage in Language arts as we prepare our eighth graders for the writing exam scheduled for Feb.
Students would benefit from assistance and practice with acute, obtuse, right, and straight angles. Also, we have begun a basic introduction to triangles, quadrilaterals and pentagons. All math will be focused on the development of these skills for the next month or so.
Language arts activities have been eared towards preperation for writing an essay. Students will be responding to prompts, practicing the writing process, developing suppoting sentences, and anything else required to write for varied audiences.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very happy holiday season!!!
Greetings parents and friends!! This month our class will be focusing on measurement in math and the writing process in language arts. Students should work on the improvement of these skills daily at home. Even if no work is sent home with your student, know that you are encouraged to work with your child as often as possible to ensure that they are performing to their maximum academic potential. In addition, interim reports are fast approaching and this would be an excellent time to meet to discuss any comments, questions, or concerns you may have regarding your student. To contact me you can call the school @ 873-8130 and leave a message, e-mail me (s3davis@scsk12.org), or simply leave a comment on this page that includes your contact information. I look forward to much success this month and extend my sincerest gratitude for your continued support.
Report Cards will be sent home on Wednesday, October 24, 2007. Please be advised! Parents are encouraged to review their child’s grades and discuss any subjects requiring improvement. If you have any questions regarding the grade your child received, I am available for conferences to discuss student progress. You can call me at the school @ 873-8130 or e mail me with a time convenient for you and I will let you know if it will be possibe to meet at that time.
Parent teacher conference is today from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Please come out and support our efforts to ensure that all our children are progressing in all subject areas. I will be located in Rm 302 for any parents wishing to conference with me.
As we enter a new month our focus shifts from the identification of current skill sets to the improvement of existing skill sets. This month our focus is on place value, coordinate pairs on grids, and order of operation. Since the skill level of my class varies greatly, practicing any of these skills with your student would be beneficial. If you have any questions regarding the skill currently being worked on by your student please contact me via e-mail s3davis@sksk12.org.
Students are currently exploring the concepts of place value, adding & subtracting with regrouping, intergers, and order of operations. The implementation of several concepts address multiple learning levels and styles. Homework is administered on an “as needed” basis. However, when homework is administered students are expected to inform their parents and seek assistance as required. Any suggestions/comments aimed at improving learnng are welcomed. Please leave comments on this board.
